Mousercise- Day 1, step L the Taskbar

Below the windows on your desktop- running across the bottom of your screen you have a horizontal line called the Taskbar.  When multiple windows are open, you can't see things that might be buried.  The taskbar keep track of what is turned on.  Whenever a program is running, a "highlighted" box will surround the icon for the program on the taskbar.

The first button on your Taskbar is always the Start button.
The black bar below shows a model taskbar for Windows 7.
Note that in this sample, one program is running, Internet Explorer, symbolized by a blue "e."

If you look at the real taskbar at the bottom of your screen it will probably look slightly different.
                                                     (Windows XP user click here)

Point to the buttons on your real taskbar for tool tips on their functions.
Note: That your Internet Explorer icon is highlighted.
These shortcuts are handy as they are always visible, and a single-click here opens the program.

Certain icons will be pinned on the taskbar by default.  Default settings are preset by Microsoft.   As you use your computer, many of these settings may be changed as you customize your computer to best meet your individual needs.
